Kaloud Lotus III Heat Management Device (Aluminum)

The Kaloud Lotus III is a high grade aluminium heat management device with built in handles on both the lid and the base. It replaces foil and it is the easiest Lotus to operate while hot.

The handles are the reason this model exists. On earlier Lotus devices you turn the lid with tongs or with a folded cloth, because the whole thing is at coal temperature. The III gives you a handle on the lid and a handle on the base. You rotate to change heat and you lift it off the bowl without hunting for tongs. It sounds minor. It changes the session.

Why heat management matters

Shisha vaporizes, it does not burn. The useful range is roughly 130 to 220 degrees Celsius. Past 220 to 250 the tobacco enters pyrolysis, which is where harshness and the burnt finish come from. Foil sits the coals directly against the shisha and the temperature spikes past that window within minutes. The Lotus holds the coals off the tobacco and moves heat by convection and radiation, so the window stays open for the length of the session.

Three heat settings

• Lid off. Lowest heat. Use it while the bowl comes up, or to recover a bowl that has gone hot.
• Lid on, vents open. Medium. Most of the session.
• Lid on, vents closed. Maximum. Dense cut tobacco and long sessions.

Turn the lid by its handle. No tongs, no lifting coals.

Finishes

Seven of them: the standard Lotus III, plus Vertis, Auris, Cyris, Niris, Violis, and Azuris. Kaloud does not anodize or powder coat these. The colour goes on with a proprietary non toxic process, which is why they read deeper than anodised finishes and why abrasives will ruin them.

Aluminium or stainless

Kaloud makes the III in both. The aluminium version is lighter and warms faster. The stainless version weighs 400 g and holds heat longer, and it comes in two tone finish pairs. If you run short sessions and move the device often, take aluminium. If you run long sessions and want thermal mass, take stainless.

What it fits

The Samsaris Vitria III is cut for this device and seats flush with no gap. Standard phunnel and Egyptian bowls in the same size range work too.

Care

Never preheat the Lotus III. Bring coals up on a burner and transfer them across. Direct flame damages the device and voids the warranty. Let it cool completely before cleaning, then wipe the inside with a dry cloth or soft brush. Keep abrasive pads and solvents away from the coloured finishes.
