Kaloud Samsaris Lapis Ceramic for Lotus 1+

The Kaloud Samsaris Lapis is the ceramic bowl for the Lotus I+. It comes in black or white and it does the same job as the aluminium Vitria with a different heat character.

Ceramic holds heat rather than moving it. Where aluminium responds quickly to whatever your coals are doing, ceramic soaks up temperature and gives it back slowly. The bowl takes longer to come up and then it sits there. On a long session that stability is worth more than responsiveness.

Ceramic or aluminium

• Lapis ceramic. Slower to heat, very steady once there. Better for long sessions and for people who do not want to keep adjusting coals.
• Vitria aluminium. Faster to heat, responds immediately when you move coals. Better for shorter sessions and active heat management.

Neither is better. They suit different ways of smoking, which is why Kaloud makes both.

Why the pairing matters

This bowl is cut for the Lotus I+. The device seats flush with no gap and no sleeve required. Pairing a Lotus with a bowl built for a different generation leaves a gap, and a gap is heat going somewhere other than your tobacco.

Packing it

Fluff pack. Break the shisha apart and drop it in loosely to just under the lip, then level it without pressing. Leave a few millimetres of clearance at the top, because shisha expands and tobacco touching the device scorches quickly.

Give it longer to come up than you would an aluminium bowl. That is ceramic, not a fault.

Care

Let it cool completely before washing. Ceramic and thermal shock do not get along, so no cold water on a hot bowl. Warm water and a soft brush. Glazed ceramic releases residue well, but it will stain over time and that is cosmetic rather than a problem.
